Chiropractic Adjustments in Emerald, QLD

Chiropractic adjustments — also known as spinal manipulation — are one of the primary techniques used by chiropractors to assess and manage musculoskeletal conditions. At Alive Chiropractic in Emerald, our registered practitioners use a range of adjustment and mobilisation techniques tailored to each patient's individual needs.

What Is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment involves the application of a controlled, specific force to a spinal joint or extremity joint. The aim is to improve joint mobility, reduce muscle tension, and address movement restrictions that may be contributing to pain or dysfunction.

Adjustments can be performed using a variety of techniques, ranging from high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) manipulation to gentler mobilisation and low-force techniques. The choice of technique depends on the patient's presentation, health history, age, and personal preferences.

The 'Click' Sound — What Does It Mean?

Many patients notice an audible sound during a spinal adjustment. This sound is thought to be caused by a rapid change in pressure within the joint, which may cause dissolved gases to briefly form a bubble — a process sometimes called cavitation.

The presence or absence of this sound is not an indicator of the effectiveness of the adjustment. Many effective techniques, including mobilisation and low-force methods, do not produce this sound.

Safety and Suitability

Chiropractic care is generally considered safe when performed by a registered practitioner following a thorough assessment. All chiropractors at Alive Chiropractic are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Chiropractic Board of Australia.

As with any healthcare intervention, there are potential risks associated with spinal manipulation, which your chiropractor will discuss with you during your initial consultation. Suitability for specific techniques is assessed on an individual basis.

Low-Force Techniques at Alive Chiropractic

Dr Roxanne Jennings Payne has particular expertise in low-force adjusting techniques, which may be more appropriate for certain patients including older adults, those with specific health conditions, or patients who prefer a gentler approach.

Our practitioners will discuss the available technique options with you and tailor their approach to your individual needs and comfort level.
