Headache & Migraine Care in Emerald, QLD

Recurring headaches and migraines can significantly affect quality of life and daily function. At Alive Chiropractic in Emerald, our registered chiropractors assess the musculoskeletal factors that may be contributing to headache presentations, including cervicogenic and tension-type headaches.

Types of Headaches That May Benefit From Assessment

Not all headaches are the same, and identifying the type and contributing factors is an important part of management. Chiropractic assessment may be relevant for:

• Cervicogenic headaches — headaches that originate from structures in the neck, often associated with reduced cervical mobility and referred pain patterns
• Tension-type headaches — often associated with muscular tension in the neck, upper back, and shoulders
• Headaches associated with postural strain — particularly in patients with prolonged desk work or forward head posture

Migraines are a distinct neurological condition. If you experience migraines, your chiropractor will take a thorough history and may discuss whether any musculoskeletal factors are contributing to your presentation.

The Neck-Headache Connection

The cervical spine and its surrounding musculature have well-established connections to headache presentations. Reduced mobility in the upper cervical joints, muscular tension in the suboccipital region, and postural imbalances can all contribute to headache frequency and intensity in some individuals.

Chiropractic assessment includes evaluation of cervical mobility, muscle function, and posture to identify any contributing factors. Research has associated chiropractic care with improvements in cervicogenic and tension-type headache presentations (Bronfort et al., 2001; Nilsson et al., 1997).

What to Expect at Your Assessment

Your chiropractor will take a detailed history of your headache pattern, including frequency, duration, location, associated symptoms, and any known triggers. A physical examination of the cervical spine, upper thoracic spine, and surrounding musculature will be performed.

If your chiropractor identifies musculoskeletal factors that may be contributing to your headaches, they will discuss a proposed care plan and explain what chiropractic care may involve for your specific presentation.
